Me talk pretty one day, written by DavId Sedaris is an interesting story of David's struggle in a french class in Paris. David uses a lot of imagery and details when he describes the characters in his books. He introduces his french teacher as a mean, manipulating, hard headed lady. David introduces two important characters he calls "two polish Anna's" who are the first students to get treated badly by the teacher. It all starts with the teacher asking them to state their names After everyone notices the cruel way the teacher treats the two girls, it signals a fear that all the students share. David just like the other students start to think of an answer that will satisfy the teacher. Sadly, no one is able to think of a good enough answer. Everyone starts to share the same feelings about the teacher. It soon becomes a routine that the teacher will correct every one of her students opinions, thoughts, and most importantly there french. David continues to struggle in the class but is one day confronted by the teacher and is told "i hate you". This totally affects David's personally. He becomes fearful even outside of the class. He used to be a talkative person but now he's even afraid to do things that don't even require speaking such as going to a bank's ATM. In a way you can say that the professors strict way of being started to change David's personality. He felt that everything he would say would be wrong. Towards the end, David and his teacher have a conversation that finally ends with David saying the last word. He was no longer scared and started to really understand french.
What I really enjoyed about this story is that David uses a lot of imagery that paints a perfect picture of what's going on in the story. He explains every thought in his head and never make's the story boring. I like the fact that David would relate his french class in paris to the class he took in New York. For example, when he said that there was no sense of competition in class It shows that the teacher from the french class is so strict that no one is willing to really
